Tragically, Michele Sharkey’s life was cut short on July 30, 2024, when she passed away unexpectedly in Littleton, Colorado. The news of her death has deeply saddened those who knew her personally and the many who followed her career on television.
Michele’s sudden passing has left a void in the veterinary community and among the countless lives she touched with her kindness and dedication.
Michele was born on April 8, 1990, in Lansing, Michigan, alongside her twin sister, Grace. From the moment she entered the world, Michele radiated a deep love for life and all living creatures. This love guided her through every chapter of her journey, from her childhood in Michigan to her professional life as a compassionate and skilled veterinarian.
Her academic journey was a testament to her passion for science and animals. After graduating from DeWitt High School in 2008, Michele pursued her love of biology at Loyola University in Chicago, earning a BA in 2013.
She then followed her calling to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2017.
Michele’s dream of becoming a veterinarian was realized when she began her career at Pol Veterinary Services in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Her path later took her to Missouri, but her heart led her to fulfill her lifelong dream of working near the majestic Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
Michele’s love for animals was boundless, and she was determined to improve their health and well-being from the moment she could express it.
Her dedication to her furry patients was matched only by her devotion to her own beloved pets, especially her kitties, Arya, Cardi, and Cow, who were her constant companions and brought her endless joy. Even after the recent loss of her eldest kitty, Roxy, Michele’s love for her animals never wavered.
Beyond her professional life, Michele was a person of many passions. She found peace and joy in the great outdoors, often hiking in the mountains and searching for moose, her favorite animal.
Michele was also a talented athlete, having been a cheerleader at DeWitt High School and Aquinas College, as well as a member of DeWitt High School’s state championship golf team in 2007.
Her adventurous spirit extended to new hobbies like snorkeling, diamond art, painting, and even ghost hunting. Michele was also a dedicated fan of Beyoncé, proudly belonging to the BeyHive, and her love for The Wizard of Oz was reflected in her collection of over 500 memorabilia items.
Michele’s bright spirit and loving nature will be missed more than words can convey. She is now reunited with her angelic family members who preceded her, including her great-grandmother, Mary Perkins; grandparents, Francis and Helen Sharkey, and Eugene and Jeanette Lenneman; uncles William Sharkey and David Hudson; cousin Brandon Sharkey; and her beloved kitty, Roxy.
Michele is survived by her parents, Michael and Tina Sharkey; her twin sister, Grace; her brother, Joseph; her many aunts, uncles, cousins, great-aunts Rita Perkins and Connie Lenneman; and her loving boyfriend, Dillon Glover. Her cherished kitties, Arya, Cardi, and Cow, will be lovingly cared for by her Michigan family, ensuring that Michele’s love for them continues on.
Though Michele’s time with us was cut tragically short, her spirit, kindness, and dedication to her loved ones and her work will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Michele’s memory can be made to the Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden, Colorado, reflecting her unwavering commitment to the well-being of animals.
